{"id":1853,"date":"2020-09-11T08:05:10","date_gmt":"2020-09-11T15:05:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pianote.com\/blog\/?p=1853"},"modified":"2023-01-11T15:25:44","modified_gmt":"2023-01-11T23:25:44","slug":"your-first-piano-song","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pianote.com\/blog\/your-first-piano-song\/","title":{"rendered":"Play Your First Piano Song In 7 Minutes (Someone You Loved)"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>You can play your first piano song in just 7 minutes (or less).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I\u2019m going to show you how, so you can see that learning your first piano song (or any song) doesn\u2019t have to take weeks or months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We\u2019ll be using \u201cSomeone You Loved\u201d by Lewis Capaldi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s a beautiful song, and only uses <a href=\"\/blog\/pop-piano-chord-progressions\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">4 chords<\/a> that repeat over and over again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can <a href=\"https:\/\/pianote.s3.amazonaws.com\/blog\/pdf\/Someone-You-Loved-Lead-Sheet.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">download the lead sheet here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And for a full, in-depth song tutorial, <a href=\"\/blog\/someone-you-loved\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">click here<\/a> (but it will take longer than 7 minutes \ud83d\ude0a).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We\u2019ll start with the opening riff, because once you\u2019ve learned that, you\u2019ve learned the entire song!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" style=\"font-size:28px\"><strong>The Main Riff<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>This is seriously the hardest part, so take it slow and focus on hitting the right keys.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Speaking of keys, you don&#8217;t have to know them all, but it will certainly help! Here are the note names on the keyboard:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.musora.com\/musora-cdn\/image\/quality=85\/https:\/\/pianote.s3.us-east-1.amazonaws.com\/blog\/2020\/The%20Chord%20Formula\/1-keyboard-notes-1.png\" alt=\"The notes of the piano keyboard\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Start by putting your pinky finger on the F#. That\u2019s the black note at the bottom of a group of 3 black keys.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Then put your thumb on the A note.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That\u2019s the white note that\u2019s in the middle of the group of 3 black keys.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And then rock back and forth between the two. It will look like this:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><video src=\"https:\/\/media.giphy.com\/media\/mC7sftWx43uQ5t73So\/giphy.mp4\" autoplay=\"autoplay\" loop=\"loop\" muted=\"\" width=\"100%\" height=\"150\"><\/video><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Get comfortable with that hand position and that motion, because you\u2019ll be repeating it for the entire riff!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After that first position, bump your hand down a couple of steps so your pinky is now on C#. That\u2019s the black key at the bottom of a group of 2 black notes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Your thumb will then rest on E, which is the white note just <i>above<\/i> a group of 2 black keys.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And rock back and forth again:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><video src=\"https:\/\/media.giphy.com\/media\/LmCTkePPd0qbpKzsws\/giphy.mp4\" autoplay=\"autoplay\" loop=\"loop\" muted=\"\" width=\"100%\" height=\"150\"><\/video><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You\u2019re halfway there!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When you\u2019re ready, pop up to the next position. Your pinky will move up one half-step to D, while your thumb will move up to F# (remember that\u2019s the black key at the bottom of a group of 3).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><video src=\"https:\/\/media.giphy.com\/media\/ZdrwIQ7phOmnncvPgV\/giphy.mp4\" autoplay=\"autoplay\" loop=\"loop\" muted=\"\" width=\"100%\" height=\"150\"><\/video><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One more position!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Put your pinky on the B note. This is the white note that\u2019s just above a group of 3 black keys. At the very end of the riff there is a sneaky little A note that\u2019s played. That\u2019s the name of the note that you\u2019ll play with your left-hand.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.musora.com\/musora-cdn\/image\/quality=85\/https:\/\/pianote.s3.us-east-1.amazonaws.com\/blog\/2020\/Play%20Your%20First%20Song%20in%207%20Minutes\/someon-you-loved-intro.png\" alt=\"Someone You Loved intro line\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>So the first note will be a D, then you\u2019ll bump down to an A before moving up to a B (don&#8217;t worry about that little &#8220;m&#8221;, it just means it&#8217;s a minor chord).
