And to play music the way it was intended to sound hundreds of years ago feels particularly spectacular.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We know many of you get into piano because you love classical music \u2014 so do we! But classical piano can be intimidating. The good news is there are many classical pieces that <em>sound <\/em>complicated but aren\u2019t too challenging.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We\u2019ve picked five classical pieces for you to learn in order of difficulty. These pieces will require some practice, but they <em>are <\/em>doable. So feel free to play ornamentations (like trills) with your own personal flair.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our tips for this song:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Tip #1: <\/strong>Work on four bars at a time, hands separate then together. I love that this piece is organized evenly into four-bar phrases. Each phrase feels complete, making it enjoyable to practice in bite-size chunks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Tip #2: <\/strong>This is a Baroque piece, which means the notes should be played detached, not legato. In other words, avoid smoothly connecting the notes together and play almost staccato. Bach because they were found in the Notebook for Anna Magdalena Bach. Today, scholars believe the pieces were actually written by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bach-cantatas.com\/Lib\/Petzold-Christian.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Christian Petzold<\/a>, an organist and Bach contemporary.\n<\/span>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"sonatina\" style=\"font-size:28px\"><strong>Sonatina in C Major (Clementi) \ud83d\udfe2<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><meta charset=\"utf-8\">This sonatina (little sonata) sounds grand and impressive. But it\u2019s almost entirely based on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pianote.com\/blog\/how-to-practice-piano-scales\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">scales<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pianote.com\/blog\/piano-chord-inversions\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">triad inversions<\/a>. It\u2019s the perfect way to warm up to this piece because much of it is built on inversion shapes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Tip #2: <\/strong>Focus on accuracy in your left hand because there\u2019s a lovely <a href=\"https:\/\/interlude.hk\/signor-albertis-moving-bass-line\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Alberti bass<\/a> that carries the song. But be careful about dynamic control because you don\u2019t want the left hand to overshadow the right. It sounds really impressive and challenging, but it\u2019s actually not that bad once you get comfortable with the key of C Minor (three flats). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns are-vertically-aligned-center is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-9d6595d7 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-vertically-aligned-center is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>Plus, the hands take turns playing one after the other for most of the piece so you don\u2019t have to worry about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pianote.com\/blog\/technique\/hand-independence\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">hand independence<\/a> that much.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our tips for this one:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Tip #1: <\/strong>Start slow. The only way to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pianote.com\/faster-fingers\">get fast<\/a> is to start slow. Build your speed up gradually and focus on being <em>accurate<\/em> and <em>consistent<\/em>. Set your metronome to a tempo you\u2019re comfortable with and don\u2019t increase your speed until you can nail your current tempo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Tip #2: <\/strong>Practice your scales and arpeggios in C Minor. Many metal musicians are re-creating Baroque pieces (like <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/tedELwIiyRo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Solfegietto<\/a> and Vivaldi\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/FVa37f67Hnc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><i>Four Seasons<\/i><\/a>) on instruments like electric guitars and they sound <i>amazing<\/i>. Indeed, metal artists and the \u201cGreat\u201d composers of yesteryear share a number of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/music\/heavy-metal-and-classical-music-have-more-in-common-than-you-think-1.5262655\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">similarities<\/a>.<\/span>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:10px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"waltz\" style=\"font-size:28px\"><strong>Waltz in A Minor (Chopin) \ud83d\udfe1<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If you love classical piano, you know that playing Chopin is a rite of passage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Many Chopin pieces are quite advanced, but \u201cWaltz in A Minor\u201d is perfect for intermediate-level players. And it doesn\u2019t sound \u201ceasy\u201d at all. There\u2019s an impressive <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pianote.com\/blog\/beautiful-arpeggios-piano-practice\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">arpeggio<\/a> sweep in the middle and the melody is SO romantic and beautiful. You might remember this piece from the award-winning film <i>The Pianist<\/i>.\n<\/span>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"sonata\">Sonata in C Major (Mozart) \ud83d\udd34<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>We\u2019ve arrived at our final and most advanced piece!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sonata in C Major is like a workout for your hands. Scales! Arpeggios! Trills! This piece has it all, from dramatic moments to sweet moments and everything in between. You\u2019ll definitely develop your dexterity and endurance with this piece.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><meta charset=\"utf-8\">This piece is the most advanced one on our list, and it sounds impressive, but when broken down, it\u2019s really built from patterns you probably already know. What you can do is pick out the scale patterns, determine their keys, and practice scales in those keys until you\u2019re comfortable with them. There are some modulations into other keys and surprise sharps and flats in this one. And if you\u2019ve been practicing those core skills like scales and arpeggios, I promise you, they\u2019re worth it!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:10px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<span class=\"blue-text-block\">\ud83d\udcdc\ud83c\udfb9 <b><i>HISTORY BITE:<\/i><\/b> There\u2019s a reason why Classical composers name their music after numbers and keys. During the Classical period (approximately 1750-1825), something called <a href=\"https:\/\/hellomusictheory.com\/learn\/absolute-music\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><i>absolute music<\/i><\/a> was trendy. Composers wanted to write music in its purest form and not associate it with art, religion, poetry, or other disciplines.
