And learning it will delight your audience!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is a gorgeous piece in E Minor, which means you only have one F-sharp to worry about. Yay!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And while the theme may <em>sound <\/em>complex, broken down, it\u2019s only a handful of chord shapes and right-hand patterns. But essentially, it\u2019s a chord progression played in an Alberti-bass pattern.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.musora.com\/musora-cdn\/image\/quality=85\/https:\/\/pianote.s3.us-east-1.amazonaws.com\/blog\/2022\/Amelie%20Soundtrack%20Tutorial\/amelie%201%20-%20intro.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>This pattern stays in your left hand throughout the entire piece, so practice it well!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:10px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<span class=\"blue-text-block\">\ud83d\udca1\ud83c\udfb9 <b><i>DID YOU KNOW?<\/i><\/b> The <a href=\"https:\/\/interlude.hk\/signor-albertis-moving-bass-line\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Alberti Bass<\/a> is a repetitive accompaniment pattern that drives a piece forward, usually in the left hand. It was named after Domenico Alberti, who loved using it, but it was also used widely by Haydn, Mozart, Clementi, and other Classical-era composers.<\/span>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:10px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"main-theme\" style=\"font-size:28px\"><strong>Main Theme<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Now let\u2019s add some right hand!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The right hand melody is playful and charming. We suggest practicing your right hand by itself first. Find a fingering that works for you. Here\u2019s what I used in the video:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.musora.com\/musora-cdn\/image\/quality=85\/https:\/\/pianote.s3.us-east-1.amazonaws.com\/blog\/2022\/Amelie%20Soundtrack%20Tutorial\/amelie%202%20-%20theme.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>After your right hand gets familiar with this melody, it\u2019s time to sync it up with your left-hand Alberti bass!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One thing that can help is drawing lines on the sheet music where notes match, like the example above.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Another thing that can help is counting out loud. You can learn how to break down complicated rhythms <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pianote.com\/blog\/complicated-rhythms\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>OR\u2026if this all feels too confusing than it\u2019s worth, use your ear! The rhythm can be tricky here, so breaking it down when counting can make it make more sense.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.musora.com\/musora-cdn\/image\/quality=85\/https:\/\/pianote.s3.us-east-1.amazonaws.com\/blog\/2022\/Amelie%20Soundtrack%20Tutorial\/amelie%203%20-%20transition.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Remember to hold those ties for their full duration!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This section is immediately followed by a similar section\u2026but harmonized! It sounds so pretty. You can use any fingering you like for those sixths, such as going from 1-5 to 1-5 or even 1-5 to 1-3.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"fancy-section\" style=\"font-size:28px\"><strong>Fancy Section<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>This section sounds complex, but it\u2019s a similar chord shape throughout and the sixteenth notes fit evenly into the left-hand eighth notes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.musora.com\/musora-cdn\/image\/quality=85\/https:\/\/pianote.s3.us-east-1.amazonaws.com\/blog\/2022\/Amelie%20Soundtrack%20Tutorial\/amelie%204.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>These shapes can feel awkward, especially if you\u2019re new to piano. If you\u2019re struggling, check your posture, relax your hands, and here\u2019s a tip: rotate your wrist with the notes. You won\u2019t sound fancy right away and that\u2019s okay!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After this section, you\u2019ll go back to playing the main theme of the song but one octave higher.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2026And you\u2019ve basically learned the entire song!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"playing-the-piece\" style=\"font-size:28px\"><strong>Playing the Piece<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>This is a very emotive song and there are several ways to make it more expressive once you\u2019ve mastered the basics:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Dynamics.<\/strong> The original song has its own dynamics, but you can add your own too! Feel out what seems natural to you.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Narrative. <\/strong>As you play the song, think of a story that goes with it. For example, the little melodic fragments make me think of a fluttering butterfly!<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Rubato.<\/strong> <em>Rubato<\/em> means \u201crobbed time.\u201d It\u2019s a technique where you speed up and slow down in various places to add more emphasis and emotion.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>What other expressive ways can you perform the song?
